Caswell Bay’s serene beauty spot sauna, Halsa Sauna, has hit a hurdle after planning permission was denied. Since 2023, this spot promised “beachside bliss where sauna meets the sea,” offering an unusual experience with a large round window framing views of the sand and sea. But, complaints from locals about noise, unauthorised parking, and glimpses of patrons in their birthday suits have led to its current predicament.

Residents raised concerns over noise and anti-social behaviour, while the council noted that the sauna’s setup, lacking amenities like toilets, was causing a stir. An outdoor staircase and visible fencing didn’t help, with planning officers citing these as privacy issues and detracting from the natural beauty of Gower.
Gareth Davies, the man behind Halsa Sauna, attempted to secure retrospective planning permission, highlighting his business as a quality tourist attraction. The council wasn’t swayed, however, citing nine reasons for refusal, from lack of conservation to highway safety concerns. Interestingly, the council also pointed out drainage issues, despite claims of a proper sewage system.

While the picturesque sauna was even promoted on Swansea’s tourism site once, its future hangs in the balance. Those intrigued by its unique charm are left wondering if Davies will appeal the decision. What’s your take on mixing modern experiences with scenic landscapes? Tell us in the comments! 🌊🌿
