🚨 Urgent Health Update: Meningitis Outbreak 🚨

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has alerted everyone about a serious meningitis B outbreak that’s sadly left two young lives lost in the UK. 🆘 This strain is both dangerous and potentially deadly. Early recognition and seeking prompt treatment with antibiotics are crucial.

🦠How It Spreads:
– Long close contact, like living together
– Sharing vapes or drinks
– Extended kissing
Thankfully, it doesn’t spread easily, but symptoms can mimic more common illnesses like a hangover. Keep an eye out and stay cautious. If you’re worried about yourself or someone else, especially if symptoms worsen, please get urgent medical help.
💉 Prevention & Treatment:
There are 11,000 doses of antibiotics ready at four centres in Canterbury, and no appointment is needed! A single course has a 90% success rate in preventing the disease.
As of today, four confirmed cases in the UK have been reported, with 11 more under investigation. Most relate to Club Chemistry in Canterbury, which is now temporarily closed.
🔬 The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation is reviewing who should be eligible for the meningitis vaccine. In response to the outbreak, a vaccination programme is swiftly rolling out for students residing in University of Kent halls.
If you spot signs of meningitis, don’t delay. Act fast. Let’s keep our friends and loved ones safe. Our thoughts are with those affected during this difficult time. Stay safe, everyone. 💙
