In other news, Nicola Harteveld, representing Labour, had a tough decision to make and withdrew from the campaign after distressing incidents of abuse directed at her family surfaced. Nicola, who leads the Megan’s Starr Foundation, shared her heartbreak after her young son was verbally abused while she was campaigning.

With a heavy heart, she prioritised her family’s safety, voicing, “It’s horrific that somebody can’t have a political view without being turned into something nasty and spiteful. We’re in a democracy for goodness’ sake!”

The political stage can indeed be a tough one, but here’s to hoping for more respect and kindness in future campaigns. 🙏
