💔 Heartbreaking news from former Wales international, Jason Bowen, as he shares his ongoing battle with motor neurone disease (MND). Once a star on the field for Cardiff City, Swansea City, Newport County, and more, Jason now faces the devastating impacts of this cruel illness. Over the last five years, the disease has gradually stripped him of the use of his legs, arms, and even his voice.

In an emotional conversation with the BBC, Jason revealed the challenges he faces daily. “I’m losing the use of my legs and my right arm is getting a bit weaker. My voice… I can’t use my left arm at all,” he shared. Despite his strength and determination, the fatigue from rehabilitation became too overwhelming to continue.

Motor neurone disease is a life-shortening condition for which, heartbreakingly, there is currently no cure. But Jason is not facing this alone. With his wife Hayley as his primary carer and his sons by his side, the support from family has been immense. His sons, including former Cardiff City player Sam, have been a source of strength, and Hayley candidly shared the emotional journey, saying, “I spend a lot of time crying in the car. But we just take each day as it comes.”
Jason’s former clubs, Cardiff City and Swansea City, have rallied to support him, raising awareness and funds to fight this terrible disease. A JustGiving page in his honour has already surpassed £23,000, showcasing the community’s commitment to finding a breakthrough for MND.
Despite the challenges, Jason remains hopeful, “There’s lots of people doing lots of fundraising for MND, and maybe they can get a cure.” His resolve is inspiring, reminding us all of the importance of coming together for such a critical cause. 🌟
