π Buying your first home? It might take a bit longer than you thought! The average age of first-time buyers has climbed to 34, up from 29 back in the mid-90s. All thanks to rising house prices and mortgage rates making it tougher than ever to get on the property ladder.

π A recent survey revealed that only 6% of first-time homeowners are under 25, a drastic drop from 23% in the mid-90s. More first-time buyers are waiting to have children too, with numbers dropping from 34% to 25% over the last decade.

π« It’s also becoming common for buyers to rely on multiple incomes, with more than half now needing two or more full-time salaries, compared to 40% previously.
π‘ Despite these challenges, experts believe innovation in mortgage products can help keep homeownership within reach. Many potential buyers are open to compromising to snag their first home, whether that’s reducing expectations on outdoor space, adjusting the type of property, or even relocating further than planned.
π According to new data, 72% of potential buyers would move an average of 12 miles away from their ideal area to buy a home, with some willing to go 40 miles or further.
π With house prices rocketing faster than wages and rent on the rise, saving for that deposit is tougher. But don’t lose hopeβthere are still ways to make your dream home a reality. Prepare for longer mortgage terms, possibly extending payments into later life, but remember, flexibility and strategic planning can pave the way for future homeowners.
