Tragic Discovery in Wrexham: Woman Found Dead in Shocking Conditions

In a deeply distressing case, 32-year-old Steffie Davies was found dead in a severely emaciated state, weighing just five stone, at her parents’ home on the Bluebell estate in Wrexham. The grim discovery was made by emergency services on May 26, 2023, revealing that she had passed away some time before the call for help was made.

Her parents, Bernita and Alan Davies, have admitted to causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult. A heart-wrenching court hearing revealed Steffie’s shocking living conditions when she was found. It’s a tragic story of neglect, with the court being told her room was in an appalling state, and her body suffered from sepsis and severe weight loss.
In a candid phone call to emergency services, Bernita described her daughter as “like a skeleton,” highlighting the severity of the neglect. Post-mortem examinations by Dr Johnson confirmed the appalling conditions Steffie endured, noting her extremely low body weight and the presence of lice.
Statements from Steffie’s sister express disbelief at how their parents could have allowed such a situation to develop, leaving her to “fade into insignificance.” In court, Bernita expressed shame and guilt, acknowledging her failures and the burden of responsibility she will carry for the rest of her life. Alan, also expressing remorse, is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
This heart-breaking case has led to the postponement of sentencing as the court grapples with its complexity. It’s a sombre reminder of the profound responsibility we have to care for one another and the tragic consequences when that duty is neglected.
