🏰 **From Dream Hotel to Risk of Collapse** 🏰

What a twist in Blaenavon! Four years ago, the stunning 200-year-old Ty Mawr mansion was dreaming of a bright future as a swanky £19m five-star boutique hotel. Flash forward, and it’s now verging on collapse. 😮

This Grade II-listed beauty, built in 1798, has sadly crumbled seriously, with a missing roof, peeling paint, and fallen walls. It’s heartbreaking to think it might not make it to its 230th birthday in 2028!
A failed bid for government funding back in 2022 halted the glitzy refurbishment plans, and the once-glorious mansion has been left to deteriorate behind caution signs, across from Blaenavon’s World Heritage Centre.
Local Councillor Nick Horler voiced his concerns in a recent council meeting, reminding everyone of the mansion’s rich history and its significance to Blaenavon’s heritage status. This site isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s a landmark of the town’s storied past in iron and coal industries.
The council, however, isn’t giving up just yet! They’re updating the building’s condition survey with help from Cadw grant funding, hoping to ward off further ruin and maybe chart a new course for Ty Mawr’s future. 🌟
Fingers crossed a new vision arises to save Ty Mawr, which has seen life as a Victorian hunting lodge, hospital, and even a care home. Let’s hope for a happy chapter in this grand old house’s story.
