Exciting news for Neath Port Talbot! 🚢 The Celtic Freeport project is making waves with another big step forward. The council has just agreed to formalise its role as the lead body in collaboration with the UK and Welsh Governments, Pembrokeshire County Council, and Celtic Freeport Company Limited. This is a massive boost for the area and promises to bring thousands of new jobs to southwest Wales. 🙌

During a recent council meeting, officers emphasised their commitment to clear roles and strong governance as they move into the delivery phase of the freeport. This includes careful management of public funds to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

The freeport, which first launched in November 2024, is a special economic zone offering tax breaks, simplified customs, and streamlined planning processes to attract businesses. It joins the ranks of other UK freeports like those in the Thames, Teesside, and Liverpool City, aiming to revitalise and develop local areas.

Cllr Steven Hunt, the council leader, expressed excitement, calling the freeport a “wonderful thing” for the community. The council is pulling out all the stops to drive the project forward, including meeting with the company’s chair and CEO for strategic discussions.
Alongside the memorandum of understanding, there’s also great news for local businesses with a business rates relief scheme for those operating within the Celtic Freeport’s designated tax sites.
Stay tuned for more updates as this transformative project continues to develop! 🚀 #CelticFreeport #NeathPortTalbot #EconomicGrowth #NewBeginnings
