Vaccine drama at the University of Kent! More than 100 students were turned away as the queue hit full capacity for the Meningitis B jab. With the vaccination clinic on the Canterbury campus closing by 5pm, it was a race against time to curb the spread of this dangerous outbreak.

Good news, though—the clinic reopens on Friday from 9am. If you’re planning on getting your shot, it’s best to join the queue by 2pm to avoid disappointment. Plus, more centres across Kent are ramping up their efforts as part of the expansion of the Government’s immunisation programme.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has extended the jab offer to anyone who visited Club Chemistry between March 5 and March 15, sixth-formers from four schools, and other university students in Canterbury. Faversham Health Centre will also be open from 9am on Friday through Saturday, with additional clinics popping up at Ashford’s Vicarage Lane Clinic and on the University campus. NHS England’s on the case!
In the face of this outbreak, the UK Health Security Agency reported a rise to 27 cases, with 15 confirmed so far. Sadly, two students have passed away, and the situation remains critical. The meningitis strain menB is responsible for most confirmed cases. Eligible people, including students who have travelled home, can now request vaccines and antibiotics from their local GP.
With more than 8,500 antibiotics and 1,600 vaccines dispensed already, the fight against meningitis in Kent is intensifying. Stay informed, stay safe, and, if eligible, make sure to get vaccinated! 🌟
