Exciting developments are underway in Port Talbot as construction begins on a cutting-edge industrial research centre! 🎉 The £28 million SWITCH Harbourside building promises to be a game-changer for the steel and metals sector, championing decarbonisation and fostering innovation. 🌍🔧

Nestled in the Harbourside area, which boasts fantastic transport links like the Port Talbot Parkway Station and the M4, this facility is set to become a hive of activity. Once completed, it will house 95 staff members and feature state-of-the-art workshops, welding zones, mechanical testing areas, and laboratory spaces. 🏗️🧪

The project, greenlit back in April 2025, is part of the transformative Swansea Bay City deal and receives funding from the UK Government, Tata Steel, and the Port Talbot Transition Board, among others.
The SWITCH Harbourside is more than just a building—it’s a vision for a net-zero society. It aims to propel the development of circular economy models and craft advanced materials, supporting academic, industrial, and governmental collaboration. 💡🤝
This new hub adds to Port Talbot’s growth, coming on the heels of new infrastructure plans supporting Tata Steel’s electric Arc Furnace. Plus, with the UK Government’s recent move to bolster domestic steel production with tougher tariffs on imports, the timing couldn’t be better.
Stay tuned as Port Talbot steps boldly into the future! 🚀 Would you like to see more updates and stories like this? Let us know in the comments! 👇
