Traffic Updates
An urgent warning has been issued in South Wales after a confirmed case of leptospirosis, a potentially deadly bacterial disease in dogs. Be aware: this disease can wreak havoc on your beloved pets, seriously affecting their liver and kidneys, and sadly, it can even become fatal within days.
Traffic Updates

Leptospirosis is picked up from contaminated water and soil, often lurking in slow-moving rivers, lakes, ponds, and even floodwater. It’s also zoonotic, meaning it can occasionally jump to humans, posing significant health risks.

Your dog could catch it from sniffing or licking areas contaminated by the urine of infected animals like rats, or from contact with another infected dog. If your furry friend loves to swim, lives on a farm, or has a habit of chasing rodents, they could be at higher risk.

Symptoms to watch out for include yellow gums or eyes (jaundice), vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, lethargy, and unusual eating or drinking habits. Even if your dog shows just a few symptoms, they can still spread the disease, so immediate veterinary attention is a must.

Good news: there’s a vaccine! Most UK dogs are routinely vaccinated against the common strains, but it’s crucial to ensure your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date. Missed shots? Time to ring up your vet!

Stay alert to these symptoms and protect your canine companions with regular vet visits and vaccinations. Let’s keep our four-legged friends safe and healthy! 🐶❤️
