Tragic discovery in Newport: A man’s body was found on the bank of the River Usk on Saturday morning. This comes after a large-scale emergency response on Friday evening, when reports came in about a man entering the river. The incident, centred around George Street Bridge and Friars Walk, saw the deployment of police, paramedics, fire services, and coastguard teams, including a helicopter seen hovering over the area.

A Gwent Police spokesperson confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and no further details will be released. Coastguard teams from Penarth and Chepstow, along with a SARA Lifeboat and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, were involved in the search efforts.

Residents were asked to avoid flying drones in the area to ensure the safety of ongoing operations. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident. Stay tuned for more local updates.
