Exciting news for Bridgend! The Rhiw Shopping Centre has been purchased by Bridgend County Borough Council for over £5m, potentially transforming the town’s centre. This move, supported by the Welsh Government, is part of a major regeneration plan aiming to breathe new life into the area with new markets, retail spaces, and community facilities.

This comes in the wake of the historic market’s closure over two years ago due to structural issues with reinforced concrete. But now, things are looking up for Bridgend, as the centre will continue operating while new plans are developed. Current businesses are to be consulted to ensure they benefit from this revitalisation effort.
Council leader Cllr John Spanswick called this a “game changer,” ensuring the Rhiw won’t be sold off in bits and can now be managed for the overall benefit of traders and residents. This acquisition is seen as a significant first step towards revitalising the Bridgend town centre by the Bridgend County Independents group, with Cllr Amanda Williams keen on collaborating with the community to make this vision a reality.

Stay tuned for more updates as this project unfolds!
