UK vet Ben Simpson-Vernon has shared the top five cat breeds he’d never own, and he’s got some interesting reasons! As a vet who’s seen numerous health issues in cats, here’s why Ben would steer clear of these breeds:

1. **Sphynx**: While their personalities are lovely, Sphynx cats face numerous health challenges. From a lack of useful whiskers to a high rate of heart disease and a short life expectancy, these unique kitties come with their fair share of problems.

2. **Munchkin**: These cats, famous for their short legs due to dwarfism, suffer from arthritis and mobility issues. Ben believes pets shouldn’t be bred for amusement, especially when it impacts their health and well-being.
3. **Scottish Fold**: Known for their folded ears, Scottish Folds carry a genetic disorder that affects their joints, leading to early arthritis and pain. It’s a sad reality for a breed that’s growing in popularity despite the risks.
4. **Savannah**: A cross between a domestic cat and a wild serval, Savannahs are larger and possess more wild instincts. Ben describes them as challenging to have in a home, suggesting a donation to conservation efforts instead of commodifying these wild hybrids as pets.
5. **Peke-Faced Persian**: These cats’ signature squashed faces bring a host of health issues, from breathing problems to eye and dental concerns. Their abnormal skull shape leads to frequent respiratory infections and other complications.
Ben isn’t judging those who own these breeds but stresses the importance of being aware of these health issues. He suggests rescuing if you’re equipped to tackle the challenges, rather than buying. Remember, healthy and happy pets always make for the best companions! 🐾
