📚🏫 Major Disruption at Llantwit Major High! 🛑

Teachers at Llantwit Major High are hitting the picket lines in a bold move to protest against challenging working conditions and unruly pupil behaviour. This strike marks the beginning of a four-day walkout, shutting the doors to most of the school’s 900+ pupils, sparing only those crucially prepping for exams in years 11, 12, and 13.

The National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) members are leading the charge, following last week’s walkout by National Education Union members. 📢 Their grievances? Overwhelming workloads, unresolved behaviour issues, and concerns for their health and safety. Allegations include staff being forced to deal with violent students without adequate management support and being pushed to work beyond their contracted hours. 🚨
NASUWT has emphasised the pressing need for a robust behaviour policy to protect both staff and students, pointing fingers at management for not addressing these long-standing issues despite more than a year of negotiations. 😤
The school’s headteacher, Charlotte Robins, acknowledges the financial strain due to a notable drop in student numbers, aggravating the school’s challenges. She mentioned that a “staffing review” will soon be underway to ensure financial stability—adding to the teachers’ apprehensions about job security. 💼
Despite the turmoil, there’s hope for meaningful dialogue and change. NASUWT’s Neil Butler stresses, “We remain open to talks—but they must lead to tangible improvements.” 💬
