🛏️✨ Cardiff’s New Tourism Tax Approved! ✨🛏️

Heads up, travellers! Starting April 2027, Cardiff will introduce a brand-new visitor levy. This exciting initiative is set to raise around £3.5 million annually to boost our vibrant city’s tourism landscape. Here’s the scoop:

🌟 **What is it?**
A small fee for staying overnight in Cardiff. Think of it as a little contribution to keep our city buzzing with life!

💡 **Why now?**
A big thumbs up came from 62% of people in a recent consultation. Cardiff is joining cities around the world with similar schemes to enhance their tourism appeal and manage big events.
💷 **Where’s the money going?**
All funds will be passed to the local authority, ensuring it’s used wisely. A new Visitor Levy Partnership Forum will guide us on investment areas like marketing, infrastructure, and making our city even more welcoming!
🏨 **Who pays?**
The levy applies to hotels, hostels, Airbnbs, campsites, and more:
– £1.30 per person per night for most places
– 75p for campsites and shared spaces
Heads up: VAT included! But don’t worry, there are exemptions for kids under 18, those staying over 31 nights, and emergency accommodations.
🤝 **What next?**
The council promises accountability, working closely with local tourism businesses to grow Cardiff’s economy, create jobs, and support the community.
Cllr Russell Goodway highlights the levy as a major step forward, offering extra resources to enhance Cardiff for all.
So, whether you’re visiting for business or pleasure, your small contribution will help Cardiff shine even brighter. ✨
