In a dramatic turn of events, a Tywyn local was caught up in a shocking altercation driven by heartbreak and suspicion. John Jones, a well-respected figure in his community, found himself spiralling after believing his estranged wife and chef Mark Cartwright were more than just friends. Acting on his fears, Jones and his son cornered Cartwright’s car. In a moment fuelled by emotion, Jones repeatedly punched Cartwright, leaving him with a broken jaw and fearing for his life.

The incident took place on a September morning near the Co-op and was all caught on CCTV. In court, Cartwright stated he was left concussed and in great pain. Unable to work for weeks, he struggled with flashbacks and anxiety post-attack.
Jones, described by many as a “pillar of the community,” faced the consequences in court. Avoiding jail, he was given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay compensation. The judge recognised the serious nature of the attack but also noted the emotional turmoil Jones faced after losing what he called “the love of his life.”
