A witness camping nearby shared the harrowing scene with The Daily Mail, describing how chaos erupted with police, ambulances, and helicopters arriving swiftly. The popular cliff path was busy with walkers and dog walkers at the time. Shortly after the couple was seen walking, they were observed jumping from the edge, landing on the rocks below. Sadly, they didn’t survive the fall.

Shockingly, the Jeffcocks were the first of four people to die in this area within just five days. The next day, authorities found the body of a woman in her 60s at the base of the cliffs, and another woman in her 50s was discovered at Sandsend on August 2. Both women remain unidentified, but their injuries suggest they suffered a similar fate.

An inquest into Mr and Mrs Jeffcock’s deaths is set for 22 September at Northallerton Coroner’s Court. Our thoughts go out to the families and friends affected by these tragic events. Stay safe and be cautious when near cliff edges.
