In a tragic turn of events, Aaron Jones, a beloved father and gentle soul from Llanpumsaint, lost his life in a harrowing hit-and-run incident. On December 23, 2024, Aaron, wearing his high-vis jacket, was struck by a vehicle while walking his family’s labrador. The driver, Daniel Wykes, 28, drove away from the scene, leaving Aaron in critical condition.

Wykes, a Chinese takeaway delivery driver, showed no remorse. Instead of seeking help for Aaron, he was more concerned about the damage to his car. He lied to bystanders, claiming he had hit a branch. He even returned to work, worried about his third-party insurance covering repairs.

Despite his panic-driven lies, justice prevailed. CCTV footage and forensic evidence connected Wykes to the scene. On March 30, 2026, Wykes was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving.

Judge Paul Thomas KC condemned Wykes’ actions as “cruelly inhumane” and highlighted the unimaginable anguish felt by Aaron’s family during the search for him.

This incident reminds us of the far-reaching consequences of reckless driving. Let’s all prioritise safety and responsibility on the roads to prevent such tragedies from happening again. 💔

Our thoughts are with Aaron’s family and friends during this difficult time. 🙏
