🚨 New Covid Strain Alert! 🚨

Hey folks! Just when we thought we had Covid figured out, there’s a new variant in town: the SARS-CoV-2 BA.3.2, also known as the “Cicada” strain. It’s already spread to 23 countries, including the UK. Here’s what you need to know:

🔍 First spotted in South Africa back in November 2024, this strain has racked up around 70-75 mutations. Some of these might lower the protection we get from previous infections or vaccines.
🇬🇧 The UK detected its first case last September 2025, and it’s popped up again in February 2026. The UK Health Security Agency is keeping a close watch on it.
Symptom-wise, it’s a mix of the usual suspects but with some twists. Here’s what to look out for:
🤒 Symptoms include:
– New, continuous cough
– Fever or chills
– Sore throat
– Congestion
– Shortness of breath
– Fatigue
– Headache
– Loss of smell or taste
– Gastrointestinal issues (diarrhoea, loss of appetite, nausea)
The tricky part? Some folks might have it without showing symptoms but can still spread it. 😯
📝 What to do if you think you’ve got symptoms:
– The NHS suggests staying home and avoiding others if you or your child have a high temperature or feel unwell.
– Once you’re back to your usual self or fever-free, normal activities can resume.
– Kids with mild symptoms (think runny nose or sore throat) can still go to school if they feel okay.
Let’s keep each other safe and informed. If you’re feeling under the weather, look after yourself and consider others. Stay safe, everyone! 🌈
