Visitors Complain of Foul Odor Tainting Scenic Welsh Destination

A lovely Welsh beauty spot is facing a stinky situation, and it’s not the fresh sea breeze we’re talking about! Porth Tyn Tywyn, a picturesque location near Rhosneigr in Anglesey, is currently under a cloud of unpleasant smells. Visitors to the area are raising concerns about the foul odour suspected to be human waste, as well as littered toilet paper along the footpaths. This is allegedly due to campervan owners using the dunes as makeshift toilets.

The site was recently part of a trial by Anglesey Council, allowing a small number of motorhomes to park overnight in an effort to curb unauthorised parking. However, it seems the popularity of this coastal car park has backfired, creating sanitation issues instead.

Locals have noted that the number of campervans has increased significantly, with one resident counting 30 vans at the site in March alone, complaining that the locked toilets are contributing to the problem. The Bodorgan Estate, in charge of the site, is aware of the situation, but unfortunately, the toilets remain closed outside the peak season.

Nonetheless, all motorhomes using the site are supposed to be self-sufficient with their own facilities, and visitors are urged to adhere to this rule to maintain the site’s beauty and cleanliness. Meanwhile, Anglesey’s other two ‘Mônfan’ trial sites at Holyhead Breakwater Country Park and Beaumaris Castle Car Park remain open, providing alternative overnight stay options for campervan owners.

The local council and community are appealing for visitors’ cooperation in preserving this beautiful spot, asking everyone to respect the natural environment and the local community by using dedicated campsites when necessary. Let’s all do our part to keep our coastal gems sparkling! 🌊🌿🚐
