Feeling the Job Hunt Blues? 😔 Karyna Lohvynenko, a passionate 21-year-old student from Cardiff, is finding the UK job market tougher than expected. Despite applying for over 300 jobs, she’s only been offered three AI interviews—no face-to-face chats at all. With a stellar resume that includes working with the First Lady of Ukraine and holding a role with The King’s Trust, you’d think she’d be inundated with offers. But that’s not the case. 🤔

Graduating soon with a degree in Business Management and a Master’s in Governance and Devolution, Karyna moved to Cardiff after fleeing Ukraine, hoping to find new opportunities in the UK. Yet, even with academic and practical experience, her search has been met with silence or rejection. 📚
At a recent career fair, she witnessed the desperation many students feel. Young folks are grabbing at any opportunity, often in fields far from their career dreams, just to get a foot in the door. Karyna says, “It’s been extremely stressful and emotionally exhausting. After so many rejections, it’s hard to stay confident.” Many recruiters don’t respond at all, leaving applicants in limbo.

She isn’t alone in this struggle. Recent stats show 16.1% of people aged 16 to 24 are jobless, excluding those still studying. Karyna’s experience reflects broader issues in a crowded job market, where a single barista role can attract 150 applicants! The competition is so fierce that companies often rely on AI to filter applicants, leading to missed opportunities for many.

Karyna believes it’s a systemic issue, with the economic climate further squeezing job availability. “It’s not just about graduate roles. There aren’t enough jobs, period,” she says. Despite paid help from recruitment agencies and CV consultations, the financial strain adds up while pursuing mostly entry-level positions. 💼
