π¨ Warning for E-Bike and E-Scooter Owners! π¨

E-bike and e-scooter fires have reached a record high in the UK! Last year alone, over 600 fire incidents were reported. The numbers have been climbing since 2021, with e-bike fires jumping from under 100 to a staggering 432 in 2025.

In Wales, the numbers have been alarming too β South Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported nine e-bike fires and seven e-scooter fires, while Mid and West Wales saw four e-bike and two e-scooter fires.
Why is this happening? When damaged, the lithium-ion batteries used in these vehicles can overheat, resulting in fires or even explosions. Here’s how to stay safe:
π Always buy e-bikes and chargers from reputable suppliers.
π Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when charging.
π Unplug once charging is complete β don’t overdo it.
π¨ Ensure smoke alarms are working and keep escape routes clear.
π Regularly check for battery damage.
Safety expert Nick Bailey points out that most problematic batteries come from cut-price products sold online. Thereβs also a worrying trend of DIY and counterfeit batteries, especially among delivery riders.
Stay vigilant and take these precautions seriously. Your safety comes first! π₯π
