Dramatic scenes unfolded in Hillside today after armed police were forced to shoot a dog dead in a tense standoff. Around 10.45am, reports came in of two loose dogs on Lynton Road, leading to chaos as a man in his 30s was attacked, sustaining injuries to his stomach and arm. Thankfully, he’s in hospital and on the mend with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Another local in his 70s had a close call but got away unharmed.

Specialist dog handlers and armed officers arrived swiftly on the scene. In an effort to keep the public safe, one dog was shot, while the other was contained by the dog patrol team. Residents were told to stay indoors as shots rang out, leaving the neighbourhood in shock. A police cordon remains, and a thorough investigation is underway with forensic teams combing the area. So far, no arrests have been made, and police assure there’s no ongoing risk.
