A shocking court case recently unfolded in Newport, where Benjamin Bannan, 20, from Caerphilly, was found guilty of assaulting two women. The first victim was slapped so hard it left a red handprint on her, while the second suffered terrifying strangulation. Bannan’s violent behaviour has deeply impacted both victims, causing severe anxiety and lasting trauma.

One of the victims described how her anxiety escalated as the court date approached, and how she struggles with sleep, fearing potential repercussions from Bannan. The chilling attack on the second victim, who had been in a relationship with him, involved incidents of strangulation and suffocation that left her breathless and terrified.

Despite the seriousness of the offences, Bannan received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, alongside community service and rehabilitation requirements. A 5-year restraining order was also imposed.
