It seems the infamous intersection near Cardiff Road is catching out motorists left, right, and centre! In just one year, the number of fines for entering a yellow box jumped by a whopping 77%, going from 1,896 in 2024 to 3,365 in 2025! 😱

Local resident Iqbal Hassan, a lifelong Cardiff dweller, feels the pinch. Regularly making the trip from Canton to Llandaff for school runs, Iqbal says he’s faced “countless fines,” some on Western Avenue. He reckons the signs are poorly placed and claims, “The fines started just after Covid… feels like they’re just targeting motorists.”

At a recent council meeting, councillor Sean Driscoll backed the enforcement for keeping traffic moving but raised concerns about how the generated revenue is being spent locally. He advocates for more of it to benefit Llandaff directly!

And what about parking? The removal of free parking doesn’t sit well with many. Driscoll argues that reinstating two-hour free parking would support local traders and make life easier for those visiting doctors or picking up prescriptions.

Councillor Norma Mackie suggests sticking to the rules to avoid fines altogether. A council rep backed her up, saying penalties are a necessary measure to keep traffic flowing smoothly and reduce congestion.

But where does all that cash go? The council ensures it’s used for traffic management upgrades, public transport improvements, and highway enhancements.

What do you think, Cardiffians? Are these fines a fair way to manage traffic or a burden on local drivers? Share your thoughts below! 👇 #CardiffTraffic #YellowBoxFines #DrivingDrama
