🚗💧 **Scandal at a Car Wash in Caerphilly!** 🚨

You wouldn’t expect a simple car wash on Pontygwindy Road to be at the heart of an international crime network, would you? But that’s precisely what happened with Dilshad Shamo and Ali Khdir! These two masterminds were running a sinister operation behind the façade of their car wash, smuggling around 400 people into Europe within just six months.

Imagine migrants journeying from Iraq, Iran, and Syria, taking perilous routes through various countries like Belarus, Moldova, and Bosnia. From there, they attempted to reach Italy, Croatia, and beyond, facilitated by Shamo and Khdir’s criminal network. These migrants were offered different “travel packages,” from road routes via lorries to more luxurious yacht trips, or even plane journeys.

Thanks to the National Crime Agency, who led a tenacious investigation, their criminal activities have been brought to light. Evidence from mobile phones showed shameless communications with international smugglers and revealing footage of migrants hidden in lorries and boats. Investigators even cracked coded conversations, originally in Kurdish, to pinpoint their illegal dealings.
Both Shamo and Khdir have been sentenced to 19 years behind bars after pleading guilty at Cardiff Crown Court. The prosecution proved their roles in the illegal smuggling operation, showing how these “businessmen” were covert criminal kingpins.
This case sheds light on the shadowy world of human trafficking happening right under our noses. The NCA vows to continue their relentless fight against organised crime and ensure justice prevails.
