Originally opened in 1876 as a railway tunnel, it lay unused until a brilliant restoration effort in 2019, led by dedicated volunteers, brought it back to life for public enjoyment in 2021. Now, you can walk or cycle through this mesmerising tunnel as long as you visit before it closes at 8pm.

Inside, the lighting is kept intentionally dim to protect our sleepy bat friends during their winter hibernation. Remember, no flash photography or torches allowed! To fully enjoy your wander, wear sunglasses for the last half mile if it’s bright outside and remove them upon entering. You’ll be amazed at what you’ll see!

Kevin Ford, our local destination guru, assures us that the flat path makes it perfect for cycling. Nature enthusiasts visiting at dawn or dusk might even catch sight of bats setting off or returning home.

This historic landmark remains open until October 1, so pack your enthusiasm and enjoy a unique stroll through history and nature combined. Just remember to stick to the left to stay safe on your visit! πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β€β™€οΈ
