Rory McIlroy has done it again! The golfing superstar has clinched his second Masters title at Augusta National, igniting a wave of support for him to receive a knighthood. Fans are calling on King Charles to honour McIlroy after he was surprisingly absent from the New Year Honours list, reportedly due to tax concerns.

At 36, the Northern Irish golfer has stacked up an impressive six major titles. His latest triumph sees him bag a cool £3.3 million, enhancing his legend at Augusta where he completed a career Grand Slam just last year. Known for his brilliance on the PGA Tour and his key role in last year’s Ryder Cup victory, McIlroy was also crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Despite being made an MBE back in 2012, some fans were left baffled by his omission from royalty’s latest honours. They’ve taken to social media, calling for McIlroy to be knighted, with comments like “Arise, Sir Rory!” echoing the sentiment.

The Royal Family even congratulated him online, but fans were quick to respond, urging for a knighthood. One supporter made it clear, saying, “Now give him his knighthood”. Another expressed, “Arise, Sir Rory McIlroy has a nice ring to it.”
Rumours swirled last year that McIlroy’s honours snub was similar to the case of David Beckham, with tax matters possibly playing a part. But, with the next chance for recognition in the King’s Birthday Honours, could we soon be calling him Sir Rory? McIlroy himself remains humble, saying that being knighted would be a proud moment.
