A chilling discovery in Bishop Auckland has left a community searching for answers. The skeleton of a baby boy was found tucked under the floorboards of a house, wrapped in an old newspaper dating back to 1910. The worker, busy with renovations, stumbled upon the remains last July, prompting an inquest that began this April.

The paper, identified as “The Umpire,” was dated June 1910, and a thin twine was found around the infant’s neck. This mysterious finding has sparked investigations, with radiocarbon dating revealing conflicting timeframes β suggesting the baby could have lived between 1726 and 1812. Yet, the tests confirm the child was born well before the nuclear age. Despite detailed forensic studies at Newcastle RVI mortuary, the baby’s cause of death remains a mystery, leaving the possibility of stillbirth unclear.

Authorities, including Durham Constabulary, are handling the delicate situation with care and the infant will be laid to rest at Bishop Auckland Town Cemetery on 27th April. The inquest is set to reconvene on 18th May, as investigators continue to seek clues about the baby’s life and untimely demise.
