Witness Recounts Tragic Incident Involving Fatal Collision with Popular Welsh Sports Manager en route to Music Concert

A heart-wrenching case is unfolding as Fiona Hodge, 69, stands trial over a tragic incident that claimed the life of Donna Crossman, a beloved former manager of the Wales netball and rugby teams. The heartbreaking crash occurred as Ms Crossman was heading to a Take That concert in Bristol in June 2024.

Hodge, a retired social worker, tearfully recounted how she accidentally drove onto the pavement on Brunel Way flyover, striking Ms Crossman and causing her to fall 25 feet. Hodge claims she had an epileptic seizure at the time, saying she has no memory of veering off the road. She described a loud jolt and the shock that ensued when her car hit the pavement.

In emotional court proceedings, Hodge explained how she and her friends sat in stunned silence after the accident. “There was a lot of shock, but I did say, ‘Oh God, I think I have killed someone’,” she told the jury. It wasn’t until the following morning that Hodge learned of Ms Crossman’s death.

The defence argues that Hodge experienced an epileptic episode, a diagnosis she received after the incident. However, prosecution suggests she was driving carelessly and simply lost focus. Evidence showed Hodge’s car swerved into a bus lane, concerning other drivers.

Donna Crossman, who managed both the Welsh national women’s rugby and netball teams, had an extraordinary career including work with the RAF and at the Pentagon. The case continues as the jury must determine if this was a tragic medical episode or a result of careless driving. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of both Ms Crossman and all affected by this tragedy.
