Heartbreak and Unanswered Questions: Families Seek Justice for Cardiff E-Bike Tragedy 💔🚴♂️

The ache of loss remains raw for the families of Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, who tragically lost their lives in an e-bike crash on Snowden Road, Cardiff, in May 2023. A heartfelt cry for justice was heard in a pre-inquest hearing as Ryan Sullivan, cousin to one of the boys, passionately requested a jury inquest.

Coroner Graham Hughes acknowledged the deep emotions within the community, explaining the inquest’s role in determining how, not why, the boys died. Ryan emphasised, “We have not had transparency. A jury is crucial for us and the whole community.” His plea reflects a community still searching for closure.
The tragic incident led to significant unrest in Ely, with riots erupting shortly after the crash. A total of 42 individuals faced charges related to the chaos that unfolded, highlighting the community’s outpouring of grief and frustration.
The police’s involvement in the accident has been scrutinised, with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) concluding that one officer might face a misconduct hearing. While the investigation found no direct contact between the police car and the e-bike, questions remain about the officer’s driving and conduct.
Despite these challenges, the families remain steadfast in their pursuit of a “more robust” hearing, unperturbed by the potential delays a jury inquest might bring. As the coroner deliberates on their request, the community waits with bated breath for clarity and justice. 🕊️
