We’re deeply saddened to share the loss of a legendary figure in the boxing world, Swansea’s own Jimmy Bromfield, who passed away at 83. Jimmy was more than just a boxing trainer; he was a mentor, a friend, and a cherished member of the community.

Throughout his illustrious career, he led champions like Neville Meade and Scott Gammer to British heavyweight titles, proving his unmatched skill and dedication to the sport. Fighters under his guidance not only honed their physical abilities but also learned the art and heart of boxing.

Paul Boyce, who worked closely with Bromfield, captured the sentiment perfectly: “He was an inspiration, genuinely cared for his boxers, and was liked by nearly everyone he met.”
Many owe their success to Jimmy’s wisdom and enthusiasm, including Chris Jenkins, Frank McCord, and his son Ross. His contributions didn’t go unnoticed; in 2016, he was honoured by the Welsh Area Council for his outstanding service to boxing.
Former Swansea boxer Miguel Matthews described him as “one of the best,” and it’s a sentiment echoed by everyone who knew him.
We’ll miss Jimmy’s affable nature and the genuine care he had for all those around him. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of fighters.
Join us in celebrating his life on April 27th at Morriston Crematorium at 3pm, where we’ll gather to honour the man who taught us all about perseverance, dedication, and kindness both in and out of the ring.
Rest in peace, Jimmy. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. 🥊✨
