**Shocking School Absence Case: Mum Taken to Court! 🤯**

Three parents in the Vale of Glamorgan have landed in hot water over their children’s appalling school attendance. They’ve been taken to court after their kids were found to be missing a shocking number of school days. The schools involved are all secondary schools, and though they can’t be named, the stories they hold are no secret!

One mother is facing fines after her son missed an unbelievable 142 school days in a row! Despite repeated warning letters and fines, the absences just kept stacking up. Surely this maths will keep you on your toes – that’s a 0% attendance rate until finally, some improvement was seen!
Another case involves a girl who missed 33 out of 44 school days, then racked up 306 missed days out of 343. Her mum’s fine also went unpaid, leading to even more consequences.
A third parent, a father, didn’t pay his fine either after his daughter skipped 16 school days, followed by another 20 skipped. The fines began to accumulate but so did the absences, leaving the council with no choice but to take action.
All these incidents have added to a staggering count, as Wales saw over 4,000 fines dished out in just a year for children failing to attend school. This led to penalties racking up to £278,000 and 835 prosecutions!
The Welsh Government isn’t taking this lightly, setting up a special task force to tackle the issue. It’s clear more action is needed to ensure every child has a fair shot at education.
What’s your take on this? Do parents need more support or should they face even harsher penalties? 📚✨
