In the picturesque village of Saundersfoot, an application for a new beer garden at The Bunker pub has stirred up quite the controversy. While pub-goers might be excited about sipping pints with a sea breeze, some local holiday let owners are less thrilled. Their concerns? Noise, antisocial behaviour, and the potential disruption of the village’s serene charm.

The beer garden proposal, aimed to accommodate 50 folks between 2pm and 9pm, is currently under review by Pembrokeshire Council’s licensing committee. While The Bunker has promised CCTV and staff on watch, objections are still flying in left and right. Not to mention, there’s a fiery debate over a fire exit that’s had to be rethought.

Neighbours have voiced fears that the garden might encourage binge drinking, lead to altercations, and even bring their property values down with guests possibly loitering and causing a ruckus in car parks. There’s also talk of potential underage drinking slipping through the cracks of supervision.

An added wrinkle? No planning consent exists for the beer garden, although planning and licensing are different matters. The decision on whether this garden will flourish or fizzle awaits on April 23.
