Tragic News from Carmarthenshire: A heartbreaking motorcycle crash on the A40 near Llandovery has claimed the lives of Rhodie Thackwray, 56, and Jack Agius, 29. The tragic incident occurred on the evening of October 26, 2024, as the bike lost control, crashing on a right-hand bend. Unfortunately, Mr Thackwray, who was driving, was over the legal alcohol limit and lacked a proper licence or helmet.

The crash happened at around 7:30pm, with good visibility and dry road conditions. A forensic collision investigator reported that the motorcycle collided with the kerb, throwing both men off the bike. The vehicle slid an astonishing 85 metres along the road.

Jack Agius’ widow shared emotional words about her late husband, remembering him as a caring soul who always put others first and was a wonderful father and husband.

Following an inquest held in Llanelli, the coroner noted that both speed and alcohol likely played roles in the crash. The investigation revealed both men suffered multiple traumatic injuries, with Mr Agius wearing a helmet that was found some distance from the crash site, while Mr Thackwray was not wearing one at all.
At the conclusion of the inquest, the coroner confirmed the tragic event was a road traffic accident. This devastating incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and the dangers of driving under the influence. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of both individuals during this difficult time.
