🎱 Snooker Showdown: Wakelin vs Hendry 🎱
Chris Wakelin has taken a cheeky swipe at snooker legend Stephen Hendry, after defeating Liam Pullen 10-6 in the World Snooker Championship! 🎉 Having won the Scottish Open and making it to the last-eight at the Crucible last year, Wakelin is on a roll. However, he feels Hendry, a seven-time World Champion, has never given him the credit he deserves.
Wakelin said, “Someone who doesn’t rate me is Stephen Hendry. He fancied Liam to beat me, and then admitted he’s never even seen me play. Whatever!” 😏
Recalling a match against Hendry in 2021, Wakelin had a bit of fun: “When asked about playing him, I joked, ‘I was too young to see him at his best, but my mum was a fan!'”
Despite Hendry’s constant jabs, Wakelin keeps his cool: “It’s my job to focus on my game. I’ve got massive respect for anyone who’s won a tournament. But it’s amusing every time he picks the other guy to win. I just get a kick out of doing my thing.” 🏆
With Ronnie O’Sullivan potentially surpassing Hendry’s record of seven World titles, Wakelin wouldn’t mind seeing it happen. “Oh yeah, just to see his face at the end,” he chuckled. “I’d be first to congratulate Ronnie.” 🤝
