Talk about determination! Team GB’s Eilish McColgan had viewers on the edge of their seats during the London Marathon when her foot “exploded” with a gruesome blister mid-race. Despite this painful setback, the four-time Olympian powered through, finishing seventh in the elite women’s competition.

As she crossed the finish line, spectators noticed blood seeping from her shoe, and the Scottish athlete later shared details about her ordeal. Just past the halfway mark, a severe blister tore open, leaving McColgan struggling to apply pressure on her right foot. “It was obviously pretty sore,” she revealed, describing it felt like a “massive tear.”

Determined not to give up, McColgan fought through the pain, even as her knee began to trouble her near the 24-mile mark. “I thought, ‘God, I canβt get to 24 miles and not finish it at this point,'” she exclaimed. And finish she did, clocking in at 2:24:51, just 26 seconds slower than her previous marathon time, but still earning a higher placement than last year.
After the race, McColgan saw a doctor to assess the damage. She expressed her frustration, saying, “It’s just frustrating to run the same sort of time as I did last year, my debut.” Despite never facing issues with her running shoes before, this race was a unique and painful challenge.
Eilish McColgan’s grit and resilience under such adverse conditions are nothing short of inspiring. Her ability to keep going, even when her body had other ideas, shows the true spirit of a champion. Let’s all wish her a speedy recovery! πββοΈπ₯π #TeamGB #LondonMarathon #EilishMcColgan #MarathonMotivation
