Emotional moments at the London Marathon! 😢🏃♂️

Ceri Menai-Davis recently completed the London Marathon with a heartfelt tribute to his late son, Hugh. He carried Hugh’s shoes around his neck, symbolising the journey they never got to take together. 🥿❤️

On the back of Ceri’s shirt were the names of 500 children who sadly lost their lives to cancer, a poignant reminder of why he was running. The front read: “My name is Ceri. These are the shoes of my six-year-old son Hugh. He died before I could run this marathon. Today, he finishes it with me.”
Ceri took on the marathon supported by family friend and former Welsh footballer, Aaron Ramsey. Together, they ran in support of It’s Never You, a charity Ceri and his wife Frances founded in memory of Hugh, who passed away from cancer at just six years old.
The charity focuses on supporting families dealing with childhood cancer, offering emotional, mental, and financial help. It also champions Hugh’s Law, a campaign advocating for employment rights for families with critically ill children, ensuring parents don’t face job insecurity while standing by their child’s side during treatment.
Reflecting on the financial hardships many families endure, Frances highlighted the challenges: “When your child is diagnosed with cancer, there’s no time for financial planning. You’re coping with your world being torn apart and the financial burdens that come with it.”
Ceri’s next goal is raising £100,000 for the charity, having already raised over £25,000. 🌟
