🚗🤔 Ever seen a 38mph road sign? Well, there’s one causing a bit of head-scratching at Windsor Great Park in Berkshire! Most of us are used to seeing 30mph or 40mph signs, so this quirky speed limit has left some road users baffled.

Why not just round it up to 40mph, right? But believe it or not, this sign has quite a backstory. It dates back to a 1972 government move towards metrication, where they considered switching road signs from miles to kilometers per hour. The idea was that 38mph would easily convert to roughly 60km/h. But guess what? 38mph actually translates to 61km/h, just a smidge over the intended 60km/h! 😆

Nick Day from the Crown Estates says the sign was put up anticipating this switch, but the full changeover never happened, and the sign stayed. Some folks think it was even a cheeky protest by Prince Philip against metrication!

Despite the quirks, it’s still there today, a little historical oddity on our roads. So, what’s your take? Should it stay for nostalgia’s sake, or time for a more standard speed limit? 🤷♂️
