Heartfelt tributes are pouring in for Sean Watermeyer, a beloved South Wales consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, who has sadly passed away at 62 after a battle with motor neurone disease (MND). Known for his extraordinary heart and incredible dedication, Sean leaves behind a legacy that has touched thousands of lives.

For over three decades, he worked tirelessly across the South Wales valleys, with many remembering him as a “wonderful surgeon and person” whose care made a real difference. His passing has left a deep sense of loss among both his colleagues and the countless patients he helped at Cwm Taf Morgannwg hospitals, including the Royal Glamorgan.

Sean was not just a remarkable physician; he was an inspiring human being. Even with his diagnosis in 2025, he continued to spread joy with his infectious smile and generous spirit. His wife Alison recounted his strength and dignity, sharing heartfelt words about his final moments spent in the sunshine, surrounded by love.

Beyond his medical achievements, Sean was a passionate author and dedicated volunteer, contributing to charitable efforts in Uganda. Tributes from friends and colleagues describe him as “one of a kind,” with a twinkle in his eye that could light up a room and an unyielding commitment to those around him.
The impact he made on the National Health Service and his community is immeasurable. Sean’s selfless dedication and kind-hearted nature will be forever remembered. Our thoughts are with his family, including his children, Ben, George, and Ellie, during this difficult time.
In his final days, Sean was surrounded by laughter and love, leaving this world peacefully and on his terms. He will be missed deeply by many, but his spirit and contributions will continue to inspire all who knew him.
