🚨🔥 Massive Blaze Alert! 🔥🚨

Firefighters are currently battling a devastating wildfire near the stunning Claerwen Dam in the Elan Valley, Mid-Wales. The blaze erupted days ago and crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service have been working tirelessly to control it. The fire, located in one of Wales’ most picturesque spots, has prompted an urgent appeal: if you’re planning on enjoying the great outdoors this weekend, please avoid the area to ensure you don’t hinder emergency services.
Local residents have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke. Natural Resources Wales has stepped in to assist, sending a firefighting helicopter to protect the unique wildlife and peatland in the area. These aircraft are crucial as they carry out precise water drops on hotspots, safeguarding vulnerable nesting birds, peat habitats, and rare plants.

The weather conditions have been unforgiving, with dry spells increasing the risk of fire. Everyone is urged to act responsibly — no lighting fires or BBQs, dispose of cigarettes safely, and take any litter home. If you see a fire, report it immediately to the fire service, and if you witness any deliberate fire-starting, inform the police.
The lovely Elan Valley landscape needs our protection. Fires can destroy these cherished environments within hours, but their impacts can last decades. Let’s all pitch in to keep these beautiful hills and valleys safe!

Remember, the Claerwen Reservoir Byway is currently reserved for emergency vehicles, so steer clear, and let’s give our brave firefighters room to work their magic. Stay safe, everyone. 🙏🌲
