Welsh Council Chief Announces Resignation Amid Controversy, Refutes Allegations of Plot

Jon Harvey took the helm in May 2024, narrowly defeating contender Cllr Di Clements. Fast forward to today, and Jon is choosing not to run again. It’s a decision he calls his own, despite former Independent Group leader Cllr Huw Murphy’s recent claims that there’s been some backdoor manoeuvring to push him out. In Murphy’s view, the Cabinet’s divided and there’s a scramble to hold on to positions and perks.

But who will be the next leader? Three candidates are in the spotlight: Conservative Group Leader Cllr Di Clements, Cllr Tessa Hodgson (an unaffiliated member and current Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care), and Leader of the Independent Group Cllr Anji Tinley. The decision will be made at the May 15 AGM, and it’s anyone’s game!
