🌟 Exciting news for students! 🌟 This past summer, tens of thousands of GCSE and A-level pupils in Wales benefited from extra exam marks through a system known as special consideration. Over 93% of the 47,000 requests for additional marks were approved, giving many students a vital boost!

So, what is special consideration? It’s a post-exam adjustment to a candidate’s mark or grade that reflects any temporary illness, injury, or unforeseen event that might have affected their exam performance. This means schools and colleges in Wales can apply for a mark adjustment of up to 5% for students who couldn’t perform to their best due to reasons beyond their control.

Why are these adjustments important? They level the playing field, ensuring that exams reflect a student’s true ability when something unexpected happens. The most common adjustments granted were an extra 3% or 4% on the student’s exams or assessments, which can make all the difference in final grades. 📊
In 2025, the subjects with the most requests included GCSE English Language, Double Science, AS- and A-level Biology, Maths, and Chemistry. On a broader scale, 4.2% of all assessments received mark adjustments last summer, slightly down from the previous year.
It’s crucial to note that these requests are strictly managed – only schools, colleges, or exam centres can make them on behalf of students, ensuring fairness and transparency. The vast majority of requests approved were for individual students, ensuring that each case gets the attention it deserves.
This system provides crucial support to students when life throws curveballs, helping them showcase their true potential. 🙌💪
