✈️ Heads up, travellers! Ryanair is cutting millions of UK seats overnight as the budget airline shuts down its Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) base. With the closure set for 24 October 2026, Ryanair’s seven aircraft stationed there will be relocating to more cost-effective airports across Europe, including Sweden, Slovakia, Albania, and Italy.

Expect disruption, especially if you’re flying between the UK and Berlin. Routes between the German capital and London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh might face changes. This move is expected to slash Berlin passenger numbers by half, from 4.5 million to 2.2 million in 2027.

Ryanair attributes the closure to surging airport fees and aviation levies in Germany, citing a whopping 10% increase in Berlin’s airport fees on top of a 50% rise since 2019. Their CEO, Eddie Wilson, didn’t hold back, criticising Germany’s aviation tax regime and calling it “broken.”
While Ryanair will continue flying to Berlin, they’ll be using planes based elsewhere. The airline warns that without significant changes to Germany’s aviation policy, further cutbacks might be on the horizon.
Stay tuned for updates and always double-check your travel plans if you’re headed to or from Berlin! 🌍✈️
