📣 Surprise Announcement from Cardiff City! ⚽️

Cardiff City’s goalkeeping coach, Gavin Ward, is leaving the club this summer, marking the end of his two-year tenure with the Bluebirds. The news came out on Tuesday, leaving fans and players surprised.

Ward’s journey in football spans over 20 years as a player before he transitioned into coaching. His coaching career has seen him take on roles at Shrewsbury Town and Nottingham Forest, and he previously spent time at Queens Park Rangers. In September 2024, he rejoined Cardiff on an interim basis, playing a key role since then.

Last season, there was some uncertainty surrounding his future. Ward admitted on the Rob and Blakey podcast that he wasn’t sure if he would stay in Cardiff. Offers from elsewhere tempted him, but a conversation with new manager Brian Barry-Murphy changed things. “After speaking to Brian, I thought, ‘Yeah, I’m staying!’” – That’s how much Cardiff means to him!
Ward has deep roots with Cardiff; his playing days with the team back in 1993 hold nostalgic value for him. His connection to the club and the city runs deep, and he’s loved being part of the team once again.
We’ll surely miss seeing Ward on the sidelines, but we wish him all the best in his future endeavours! 💙
