A terrifying scene unfolded in Port Talbot, South Wales, as a commercial waste plant went up in flames, leaving locals feeling abandoned and helpless. The fire, which blazed for days, sent thick, black smoke billowing across the neighbourhood, forcing residents to seek refuge indoors and keep windows and doors tightly shut. 😷
Residents are frustrated, saying more could have been done. Carole, an elderly resident with health issues, felt forgotten and scared, struggling to breathe as smoke seeped through her home. 😟 “No one came to check on us – I just wore a mask for hours,” she shared.
Paul, another local, describes the “shocking” experience of smoke forcing its way through every crack in his house. “It was everywhere – you could even taste it!”
Meanwhile, Joanne watched in disbelief as people gathered outside, treating the blaze as if it were a movie scene, despite the choking smoke. 🎥 “It felt like everyone was on their own. My son’s eyes were streaming, and there was no sign of anyone making it safer.”
🔍 Local authorities did advise staying indoors and had an emergency response team ready but, for many, it wasn’t enough. Residents are questioning the lack of evacuation. “Why didn’t anyone knock on our doors?” they ask.
