The Boot Room charity is breaking up with Swansea City AFC over a lack of what they call “meaningful support.” The charity, known for providing football boots and sports gear to underprivileged kids across Swansea, has made a significant impact on keeping young players active. But now, they’re taking to social media to voice their disappointment with the local club.

Despite past collaborations, the charity said they’ve felt left out in the cold. They highlighted that while they once received a Swansea City kit for promo purposes, it wasn’t enough to support their scale of work. It’s especially frustrating with many assuming they’re funded by the club, impacting potential partnerships with other organisations like the Football Association of Wales.

The Boot Room shared their struggles in rallying for basic fundraising opportunities, saying volunteers felt “uncomfortable and unwelcome” at bucket collections after much chasing. However, they did give a big shout-out to Charlton Athletic FC for their outstanding support.
“The reality is that every aspect of our charity — from rent to running costs — has been funded through the hard work of The Boot Room and our dedicated volunteers,” the statement mentioned, reinforcing that they are a registered charity deserving of proper support and recognition.
Now, the charity is more determined than ever to help young people access sports. They’re on the lookout for new partnerships and shout out to local businesses and organisations willing to step up and support their mission. Know someone who might help? Tag them!
While we reached out to Swansea City AFC for their take, they declined to comment. The Boot Room remains committed to making a difference for young athletes in Swansea and beyond.
