In an upsetting betrayal of trust, Kevin Bowles, once a trusted friend and carer, has been sentenced for stealing precious jewellery, including a wedding ring, from a woman while she was hospitalised. Acting as her unofficial carer, Bowles visited the woman’s home in Gorseinon daily, seemingly out of kindness. However, while she lay in a hospital bed, he raided her possessions.

Not only did he steal her jewellery, he also helped himself to important documents and even siphoned £1,000 from her bank account. What makes this crime particularly disheartening is that the victim has known Bowles since he was a child and considered him as family. Her statement to the court highlighted the deep emotional impact of the theft. She now feels unsafe in her home of two decades.

Appearing before Swansea Crown Court, Bowles admitted to his actions. His barrister acknowledged the “particularly mean offence” and expressed his client’s wish to apologise. Unfortunately, this wasn’t Bowles’ first run-in with the law; his criminal record includes theft, burglary, and harassment.

Sentenced to 22 months in prison, Bowles will serve a significant part of this term behind bars. Upon release, he plans to relocate and rebuild his life, breaking old ties to avoid slipping back into criminal activity.
