**Shocking Assault Outside Llanelli Wetherspoons Lands Repeat Offender Back in Jail**

In a distressing incident outside a Llanelli pub, Martin Guard was sentenced to 16 months in prison after a violent attack on his partner. The assaults took place following a disagreement outside the Wetherspoon bar, where the pub’s quick-acting staff member intervened to stop the cruelty.

Guard, 46, who has a lengthy criminal record with over 140 offences including domestic violence and robbery, pleaded guilty to common assault and intentional strangulation. This isn’t the first time Guard’s violence has put him behind bars. Back in 2021, he received a two-and-a-half-year sentence for a prolonged attack on the same partner, during which he used a baseball bat as a weapon.

Swansea Crown Court Judge Paul Thomas described the recent incident as a “cowardly” and “gross understatement” of an ugly scene. Despite the previous imprisonments, Guard had only been free for five months when he reverted to violence again.
The victim did not support the prosecution, leaving the court unable to issue a restraining order, though police have expressed ongoing concerns for her welfare.
With a 20% reduction for his guilty plea, Guard will serve half of his sentence before release on licence. The community is left to ponder the impacts of repeated violent crimes and the importance of interventions in domestic abuse cases.
